Jehovah's Witness 1. Charles Taze Russell started Jehovah's Witness in 1872
Russell struggled with some of the christian beliefs and believed that the Bible could be explained only by what he thought the meaning should be
His ideologies were published in the magazine, The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom
He also founded the Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society
This society later became known as Jehovah's Witness
2. Fundamental Beliefs:
Belief in one God and stress a personal relationship with him
reject the idea of a holy trinity and holy spirit
Belief in the Bible is very similar with that of most christians
Believe that the Bible is a gift from God so we can learn more about him and that the Bible gives us useful advice to help us get through problems that life throws at us
they have their own translation called "New World Translation"
Believe that Jesus was God's first creation, and existed in a pre-human form before he came into the world
his purpose in coming into the world was 1. reveal the truth about God, 2. provide a role model for people to live by, 3. and to sacrifice himself for the sin of man
Believe in the fall of man, but do not believe the free will was damaged
Different view of afterlife:
1. There is no Hell; wicked souls will be eradicated
2. Earth will become a paradise with no violence, disease, or death
3. Only a select 144,000 will actually go to heaven with God
Believe that we are living in the end times since 1914
